Police have charged a Dartmouth man for sharing explicit images with a person he believed to be a minor.
On Wednesday, investigators in the Internet Child Exploitation Unit received information that a man in Dartmouth was communicating with a person he believed to be a 15-year-old girl from the United States. Communication included sharing photos and videos. The man was also making plans to travel to the United States to meet the girl.
The person he was communicating with was actually an undercover police officer from the United States.
At 3 p.m. on Wednesday, police arrested Ryan Richard Lamontagne, 32, in Dartmouth. He will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:
- Providing sexually explicit material to a child under the age of 16
- Luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication
Anyone with information on child pornography is asked to file a report by calling police at 902-490-5020 or by using Cybertip, Canada's National Tip Line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children, at www.cybertip.ca.
