Police have recovered a vehicle stolen over the weekend following a pursuit in Dartmouth on Monday night.
On February 8 at approximately 9:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a theft of a Volkswagon Jetta in the parking lot at 2651 Windsor Street in Halifax. The victim reported that while he was waiting in the passenger seat of his running vehicle, an unknown man got into the driver’s seat, threatened him with a knife and then stole the vehicle. The victim was not physically injured.
On February 9, at approximately 11:30 p.m., an officer observed the stolen vehicle in the parking lot of 101 Wyse Road in Dartmouth. The officer activated their patrol vehicle’s emergency lights and attempted to approach the vehicle, but it fled. Multiple patrol units responded and pursued the vehicle through Burnside Industrial Park onto Wright Avenue where they were able to bring the vehicle to a stop and arrest the driver. There were no reported injuries.
The driver was also the suspect in other recent theft incidents and was charged for those as well.
Ryan Colbourne, 28, was scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court yesterday to face charges of:
- Evading police (flee in a vehicle)
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
- Operation of a conveyance while prohibited (x4)
- Theft under $5000.00
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.00 (x2)
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
- Resist arrest
- Fail to comply with probation order (x4)
- Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
- Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
- Robbery
- Disguise with intent
