Halifax Regional Police responded to 695 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable incidents are as follows:
Police investigate robbery
On March 20 at approximately 8:20 p.m., police responded to a report of a robbery that occurred at Winners, inside the Halifax Shopping Centre, located at 7001 Mumford Road in Halifax. Security reported that when they confronted a man and a woman for shoplifting, the man threatened them with a knife. The suspects dropped the stolen product and then fled on foot. There were no reported physical injuries.
The first suspect is described as a Black man in his 30s with black hair who was wearing a black jacket and white pants at the time of the incident. The second suspect is described as a white woman in her 30s who was wearing a white ball cap, grey sweatshirt and pants at the time of the incident.
The investigation is ongoing.

Police lay charges in vehicle-pedestrian collision
On March 21 at approximately 1:45 a.m., police responded to a report of a vehicle-pedestrian collision that occurred at the intersection of Brunswick Street and Spring Garden Road in Halifax. It was further reported the driver of the vehicle failed to stop and fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers learned two pedestrians had been struck while both were crossing in a marked crosswalk. Both pedestrians were transported to the hospital by EHS with non-life-threatening injuries.
At approximately 3:40 a.m., officers located and arrested the driver without incident and seized the vehicle.
A 31-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of:
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired causing bodily harm (x2)
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired by alcohol over 80mg
- Failure to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm

Police investigate sudden death
On March 22 at approximately 1 p.m., police responded to a report of an unconscious person in Fort Needham Memorial Park, located at 3340 Union Street in Halifax. Upon arrival, officers located a 42-year-old man deceased in a tent.
While the death does not appear to be suspicious, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Police lay charges following pursuit
On March 22 at approximately 11:10 p.m., police were responding to a single vehicle crash in the 800 block of St. Margaret’s Bay Road. While conducting traffic control, an officer approached a vehicle attempting to pass and observed two women inside the vehicle with open alcohol. When ordered by the officer to exit the vehicle, the driver refused and fled the scene, striking the officer in the process. Multiple units pursued the vehicle and were able to stop it in the 3700 block of Ketch Harbour Road. Both occupants were arrested without further incident. During a search of the vehicle, incidental to arrest, officers located and seized a quantity of alcoholic beverages, a quantity of drugs and a quantity of money.
The officer was not seriously injured and there were no other reports of physical injury.
Alexandra Purchase, 35, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand for testing
- Flight from peace officer-failure to stop motor vehicle or vessel while being pursued
- Operation of a conveyance while impaired to any degree by alcohol or drugs or combination of both
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
- Failure to stop after an accident
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
Kelly Pellerine, 43, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.00
- Failure to comply with conditions of release order (x3)

Police lay robbery charges
On March 22 at approximately 9:15 p.m., police responded to a report of a robbery that occurred at Walmart, located at 90 Lamont Terrace, in Dartmouth. Staff reported that a woman entered the store, took a suitcase and began filling it with products. When staff confronted her, she assaulted them and fled on foot. There were no reports of serious physical injuries.
While searching the area, officers observed the suspect in the passenger seat of a vehicle pulling out from behind a closed business. Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the suspect without incident and recovered the stolen product. The suspect was also the subject of an arrest warrant originating out of Windsor, Nova Scotia.
A 26-year-old woman is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date to face a robbery charge.
