Halifax Regional Police responded to 679 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable incident are as follows:

Update: Man charged after threatening police with a knife

Halifax Regional Police have charged a man for threatening police with a knife on Quinpool Road on Saturday.

Brent Alexander Julien, 37, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:

  • Robbery (x2)
  • Assault peace officer with a weapon (x2)
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace (x3)
  • Breach of release order (x5)
  • Resist peace-officer
  • Fail to attend court

Proactive driving checkpoints

In an ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving and address traffic safety, Halifax Regional Police officers conducted proactive checkpoints over the weekend in Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford. During these check points, 556 vehicles were stopped. As a result of these stops:

  • 1 driver was arrested for impaired operation of a conveyance. An arrest occurs when a driver’s blood alcohol concentration is over of 80 mg%
  • 1 person was issued a 7-day license suspension for having a blood alcohol concentration between 50 mg% and 79 mg%
  • 1 driver was charged for driving with a revoked license
  • 6 summary offence tickets were issued for various motor vehicle act offences
