The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of the following road closures and service impacts resulting from the 2026 ICF Masters 2026 Canoe Sprint World Championships and ICF Junior & U23 Canoe Sprint World Championships (Canoe ’26) taking place on Lake Banook from June 25 to July 5, 2026.
Road closures
The following road closures will be in place:
- Banook Avenue and Boathouse Lane will be closed from 6 a.m. on Monday, June 22 to 12 a.m. on Monday, July 6. Local access will be maintained.
- Nowlan Street will be closed from 8 a.m. on Monday, June 22 to 11 p.m. on Monday, July 6. Local access will be maintained.
- Prince Albert Road will be closed between Sinclair Street and Hawthorne Street from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30 to 6 a.m. on Monday, July 6. Local access to Prince Albert Road, Bolton Terrace and Nowlan Street will be maintained.
- Rixdale Drive will be closed from 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30 to 6 a.m. on Monday, July 6. Local access will be maintained.
- The multi-use path adjacent to Prince Albert Road will remain open during event hours but will be closed overnight.
Parking
Parking will not be permitted on the following roads:
- Hawthorne Street, between Crichton Avenue and Prince Albert Street, from Wednesday, June 24 to Monday, July 6.
- Nowlan Street from Monday, June 22 to Monday, July 6.
- Elliot Street, from Prince Albert to Erskine streets, from 8 a.m. on Thursday, June 25 to 8 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7.
Halifax Transit
From Tuesday, June 30 to Friday, July 3, route 370 will be on detour in the impacted area around Lake Banook. For more information, visit: halifax.ca/htdisruptions
Parks
The following park impacts will be in place:
- Henry Findlay Park will be closed from Monday, June 22 to Friday, July 10.
- Lions Beach Park will be closed from Monday, June 22 to Monday, July 6.
- Kiwanis Grahams Grove Park will have limited access from Wednesday, June 24 to Monday, July 6. Parking will be limited from Monday, June 22 to Monday, July 6.
- Birch Cove Park and beach will be closed from Wednesday, June 24 to Monday, July 6. Parking will be limited from Monday, June 22 to Monday, July 6.
Solid Waste
Residents in the vicinity of Canoe ’26 with Tuesday and Thursday collection should place garbage, green carts and recyclables curbside before 7 a.m. on their scheduled collection day, as collection may occur earlier than usual.

Répercussions de l’événement Canoë 2026 sur les services municipaux
Jeudi 19 juin 2026 (Halifax, N.-É.) - La municipalité régionale d’Halifax avise les résidents de fermetures de routes et de perturbations de service en raison des Championnats du monde de canoë de vitesse des maîtres FIC et des Championnats du monde de canoë de vitesse juniors et U23 (Canoë 2026) qui auront lieu sur le lac Banook du 25 juin au 5 juillet 2026.
Fermetures de route :
Les routes suivantes seront fermées :
- L’avenue Banook et Boathouse Lane seront fermées du lundi 22 juin à 6 h au lundi 6 juillet à minuit. L’accès local sera maintenu.
- La rue Nowlan sera fermée du lundi 22 juin à 8 h au lundi 6 juillet à 23 h. L’accès local sera maintenu.
- Prince Albert Road sera fermé entre les rues Sinclair et Hawthorne du mardi 30 juin à 11 h au lundi 6 juillet, à 6 h. L’accès local à Prince Albert Road, à Bolton Terrace et à la rue Nowlan sera maintenu.
- Rixdale Drive sera fermée du mardi 30 juin à 11 h au lundi 6 juillet à 6 h. L’accès local sera maintenu.
- La piste polyvalente adjacente à Prince Albert Road demeurera ouverte pendant les heures de l’événement, mais sera fermée pendant la nuit.
Stationnement
Le stationnement ne sera pas autorisé sur les routes suivantes :
- Rue Hawthorne, entre l’avenue Crichton et la rue Prince Albert, du mercredi 24 juin au lundi 6 juillet.
- Rue Nowlan, du lundi 22 juin au lundi 6 juillet.
- La rue Elliot, des rue Prince Albert à Erskine, du jeudi 25 juin à 8 h au mardi 7 juillet à 8 h.
Halifax Transit
Du mardi 30 juin au vendredi 3 juillet, la ligne 370 sera déviée dans la zone impactée autour du lac Banook. Pour plus d'infos, rendez-vous sur : halifax.ca/htdisruptions (en anglais).
Parcs
Les répercussions sur l’accès aux parcs seront les suivantes :
- Le parc Henry Findlay sera fermé du lundi 22 juin au vendredi 10 juillet.
- Le parc Lions Beach sera fermé du lundi 22 juin au lundi 6 juillet.
- L’accès au parc Kiwanis Grahams Grove sera limité du mercredi 24 juin au lundi 6 juillet. Le stationnement sera limité du lundi 22 juin au lundi 6 juillet.
- Le parc Birch Cove et la plage seront fermés du mercredi 24 juin au lundi 6 juillet. Le stationnement sera limité du lundi 22 juin au lundi 6 juillet.
Déchets solides
Les résidents qui habitent à proximité du site de l’événement Canoë 2026 doivent déposer leurs ordures, bacs verts et matières recyclables sur le trottoir avant 7 h le jour prévu de la collecte (mardi ou jeudi), car le ramassage pourrait avoir lieu plus tôt que d’habitude.
